What is Tefilat Haderech? (Prayer before a trip)

It is a prayer we recite for safety and protection during a trip. We say it when we leave the City and enters the road or during an airplane takes off.

Translation

May it be Your will, Lord, our God and the God of our ancestors, that You lead us toward peace, guide our footsteps toward peace, and make us reach our desired destination for life, gladness, and peace. May You rescue us from the hand of every foe and ambush, from robbers and wild beasts on the trip, and from all manner of punishments that assemble to come to earth. May You send blessing in our handiwork, and grant us grace, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us. May You hear the sound of our humble request because You are God Who hears prayer requests. Blessed are You, Lord, Who hears prayer.

Feedbacks from Number One Music!!

DB Hey, I personally think that it shows that you are more musically gifted if you can bring us different kinds of music than just playing the same thing tune after tune. I like your music very much because of its diversity and you are not tryin' to repeat yourself or any artist out there. I appreciate the creativity you put into your music style. From a true fan of all your music.

Rav Yitzchak Yaakov Reines - yurzeit: 9 Elul. Founder of MIZRACHI Movement

Rav Yitzchak Yaakov Reines (1839-1915).

(9 Elul per www.chevrahlomdeimishnah.org

Born in Karolin, Belarus, Rav Yitzchak Yaacov Reines studied at Volozhin Yeshiva under the Netziv.

His first rabbinical position was in Saukenai, Lithuania, in 1867, followed by a position in Svencionys in 1869.

In 1882 he founded a yeshiva with a curriculum that included secular subjects.

From 1885 until his death, he headed a yeshiva in Lida (now in Belarus).

He was a member of the Chibbas Tzion movement from its inception.

In 1893, Rav Shmuel Mohliver founded Mercaz Ruchani, or the "spiritual center.”

Rav Reines

Ten years later, when Rav Reines was looking for a good name for a religious Zionist movement, he adopted the name, “Mizrachi.”

Rav Reines was one of the first rabbis to answer Herzl's call to become part of the Zionist movement, and he attended the Third Zionist Congress in 1899.

While most of his colleagues remained opposed to political Zionism, in 1902 Reines published a book, Or Chadash al Tzion which presents a call to a Zionist Judaism.

The same year, he organized a conference of the religious Zionist movement in Vilna, where the Mizrachi movement was founded.

He was recognized as the movement's leader at its founding convention in Pressburg, Bratislava in 1904.

Rav Reines authored many sefarim including Sefer Ha-arakhim and Edus beYaakov.

Rav Kook and the number 70.

Rabbi Avraham Itschak Hacohen Kook was the first Chief Rabbi of Israel in the present Era.

He passed away at age 70, just like King David.

The day of his demise (Yurzeit) in the Hebrew calendar is 3 of Elul.

The numerical value of Elul - אֱלוּל - in Hebrew is 67.

67 + 3 lately is 70 = the date of death and the respective age of Rav Kook.

And we are in Year 70 of the founding of the State of Israel.

Seventy is also the number of nations and languages of the world according to the Torah.

Putting all together gives a beautiful Gueulah!

What is the Shulchan Aruch?

The Shulchan Aruch (in Hebrew: שולחן ערוך).

Literally "table set, it is a codification or catalog written of Halachah, the Jewish Law, all written by Rabbi Yosef Karo, in 1563 in the city of Tzfat (Safed), Israel.

It is considered by the vast majority of Orthodox Jews, along with their commentaries, as the highest authority compilation after the Talmud, with the exception of a minority, the Yemeni Jews, who continue to follow the Mishneh Torah of the Rambam (Maimonides).

The Shulchan Aruch has four volumes, subdivided into chapters and paragraphs:

Orach Chayim - laws on prayers and synagogue, shabbat, holidays;

Yoreh De'ah - laws on shechita, kashrut and conversion to Judaism;

Even Ha'ezer - laws on marriage, divorce and related matters;

Choshen haMishpat - laws on finance, financial liability, damages (personal and financial), the rules of Bet Din, as well as laws on witnesses.

Brockhaus and Efron Jewish Encyclopedia e9 327-0.jpg

It is interesting to note that Rabbi Yosef Karo fluently knew Portuguese and Spanish, having lived with his family in these countries years before the tragic expulsion of the Jews.

The 3 oats against the formation of the State of Israel

 Lipa Schmeltzer what is your response to people who shows anger against the State of Israel because they say there was 3 oats against it etc etc?

Lipa Schmeltzer The classic answer is that one of the oats say we will not be persecuted, and indeed we were, so that breaks the condition of the oats. Secondly, look up the sefurim of Rav Kook and Aim Habunim from Tichtel and you'll see that the state of Israel is not a contradiction to what you brought up. Finally, let's not forget that the oat is to say we will not establish an Halachic state with Korbunos and a temple and all. But a government to protect Jews is indeed a most. And we must pray for them as the Pirke Uvois tell us to pray fro every government. (Some take the three oats and blow it up, but hide so many other Gemures.)

It's all a matter of choice

In the cartoon, a group of fun beings are relentlessly searching for an Evil One to follow.

Think now of the same group seeking a righteous man, a Tzadik, to follow.
What would be the result?

How much good would it do to the world, same cartoon, with the same sense of humor?

The choice is always ours.
